Supporting orphaned children well starts before any material assistance is given: with accurately identifying which Kasarani households are actually carrying guardianship responsibility for a child who has lost one or both parents, and understanding their specific circumstances.

We rely heavily on community health volunteers, church contacts and local leaders, who typically know their immediate neighbourhoods well, to flag households in this situation, followed by a respectful, private conversation with the guardian rather than assuming what support should look like.

Needs vary considerably: some households need help with school fees or supplies, others need connection to a health facility, and some primarily need to know that support exists at all and that reaching out isn't something to be ashamed of. Our Constitution names orphans specifically among the groups we exist to serve, and getting this identification step right shapes everything that follows.
