It would be easy to run a rotating series of guest speakers for our youth mentorship programme, a different professional each month, a fresh topic every time. We deliberately don't. Instead, the same small group meets the same mentor, month after month.
The reasoning is straightforward: a relationship built over months gives a young person somewhere to bring an actual problem, not just an inspirational talk to listen to once. Mentors get to know each participant's specific circumstances, follow up on things discussed the previous month, and notice when something seems off.
It's a slower model, and it means we can support fewer young people at once than a rotating speaker series might reach. We think that trade-off is worth it. A relationship a young person actually trusts tends to matter more than a wider but shallower reach.
