Our latest community health day drew a strong turnout: 120 residents came through for free blood pressure checks, basic screening and nutrition advice over the course of a single morning, run by volunteers alongside a partner health worker.
Much of what we offer at these events is simple, screening and information rather than treatment, but simple is often exactly what's missing for households that rarely get to a clinic unless something is already seriously wrong. Several residents who came through for a routine check left with a referral to follow up at a nearby facility.
We're aiming to make health days like this a regular fixture, rotating between different parts of Kasarani so no single area has to travel far to be reached, with particular attention to elderly residents who may not otherwise leave home for a check-up.
